Howie Mandel<\/strong>\u00a0is sharing a post-op update on\u00a0Simon Cowell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In fact, the\u00a0America’s Got Talent<\/em>\u00a0judge revealed his costar is recovering nicely after recently recovering from a\u00a0previously planned back surgery.<\/p>\n

“As I talk to you, he is just hours out of surgery,” Mandel exclusively told E! News’\u00a0Erin Lim Rhodes<\/strong>\u00a0Sept. 3 at his Los Angeles podcast studios. “I heard that it was a success, everything’s okay.”<\/p>\n

Cowell has been absent from\u00a0AGT<\/em>‘s season 21 live shows as of late for medical reasons related to\u00a0a scary 2020 accident\u00a0in which he broke his back in several places after falling from an e-bike at his Malibu home.<\/p>\n

And, according to Mandel, the 66-year-old’s operation went off without a hitch.<\/p>\n

“I haven’t called him yet,” the comedian shared before joking, “I don’t know that, this close to surgery, if this is the first thing you need to see.”<\/p>\n

But after giving Cowell a day or two to recover, the 70-year-old said he “can’t wait to see him and visit him and give him my best wishes.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

And with\u00a0AGT<\/em>‘s season finale quickly approaching, Mandel made it clear he expects his costar to return to the NBC talent competition before a season 21 winner is crowned.<\/p>\n

“I’m hoping that Simon makes his way back and has a speedy, quick recovery,” the\u00a0St. Elsewhere<\/em>\u00a0alum added. “That’s what I’m looking forward to.”<\/p>\n

In the meantime,\u00a0Kenan Thompson<\/strong>\u00a0filled in for Cowell at the judges’ table earlier this week. Next,\u00a0AGT<\/em>\u00a0alum\u00a0Heidi Klum<\/strong>\u00a0will make her triumphant return to the series to keep Cowell’s seat warm, which Mandel called “really exciting.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

As for which season 21 act Mandel thinks will win the coveted $1 million prize\u00a0along with a chance to headline a live show in Las Vegas?<\/p>\n

“It’s going to be a very tough choice for America,” he confessed to E!, “because there are way more than one or two acts worthy of the $1 million.”<\/p>\n

Mandel added, “I’ve never seen this close a race.”<\/p>\n

After these doctors said they thought she had Cushing syndrome and that it may be caused by spiking coritsol levels or steroid injections, the\u00a0Life & Beth<\/em>\u00a0creator\u00a0thought, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections in my scars.”<\/p>\n

“I had a breast reduction, a C-section, whatever, and so I was getting these steroid injections,” Amy said. “So it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn\u2019t have known if the internet hadn\u2019t come for me so hard.”<\/p>\n

Toda, Amy is just relieved she’s OK. As she shared in a February 2024\u00a0News Not Noise newsletter, “Finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hailey Bieber<\/strong>\u00a0had the “scariest moment” of her life when she was\u00a0having breakfast with husband\u00a0Justin Bieber<\/strong>\u00a0and started experiencing stroke-like symptoms in March 2022.<\/p>\n

“Justin was like, ‘Are you OK?'” the Rhode skincare mogul shared a month later on\u00a0YouTube, “and I just didn’t respond because I wasn’t sure. And then he asked me again and when I went to respond, I couldn’t speak. The right side of my face started drooping. I couldn’t get a sentence out.”<\/p>\n

While Hailey said the facial drooping stopped and her speech came back, she went to the hospital to make sure she was OK.<\/p>\n

“They did some scans and they were able to see that I had suffered a small\u00a0blood clot to my brain,” the model added, “which they labeled and categorized as something called a TIA [Transient Ischemic Attack].”<\/p>\n

Later, Hailey went to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she found out she had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO).<\/p>\n

She explained the blood clot had traveled into her heart, “escaped” through the hole and went to her brain, leading to the TIA.<\/p>\n

Hailey said she had a\u00a0successful PFO closure\u00a0procedure and was now\u00a0feeling great.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The same year Hailey had her health scare, Justin experienced one of his own.<\/p>\n

In June 2022, the “Baby” singer shared he was\u00a0diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome<\/strong>, a condition that caused temporary paralysis to parts of his face and forced him to\u00a0cancel the remainder of his Justice World Tour.<\/p>\n

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis,” Justin explained in an\u00a0Instagram\u00a0video at the time. “As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move. So, there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”<\/p>\n

In fact, he told his followers it had gotten “progressively harder to eat.” But after a while, the paralysis went away.<\/p>\n

“He’s doing really well,” Hailey said on a June 2022 episode of\u00a0Good Morning America<\/em>, later adding, “He’s feeling a lot better. Obviously, it was just a very scary and random situation to happen, but he’s going to be totally OK and I’m just grateful that he’s fine.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

One day in Atlanta, “I was having such a bad headache, so I asked my boy, I said, \u2018Listen, I need an aspirin,\u2019\u201d the Oscar winner said in his 2024 Netflix special\u00a0What Had Happened Was…<\/em>\u00a0\u201cBefore I could get the Aspirin, I went out. I don\u2019t remember 20 days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jamie said he was initially taken to a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and then sent him home. However, his concerned sister\u00a0Deidra Dixon<\/strong>\u00a0then drove him to a hospital, where they got an answer: He had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.<\/p>\n

Twenty days after undergoing an operation, the\u00a0Django Unchained<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>woke up May 4 in a wheelchair and couldn\u2019t walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.<\/p>\n

“All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer,\u201d he said, \u201cbecause I needed every prayer.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

And then my grandpa was there. And then I saw darkness. But then I saw light. So I knew, I knew I died that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emilia Clarke<\/strong>\u00a0filmed battle scenes for\u00a0Game of Thrones,<\/em>\u00a0but in 2019, she published\u00a0an essay in\u00a0The New Yorker<\/em>\u00a0titled “A Battle for My Life.”<\/p>\n

Having a bad headache at the gym, “I reached the toilet, sank to my knees, and proceeded to be violently, voluminously ill,” the actress wrote. “Meanwhile, the pain\u2014shooting, stabbing, constricting pain\u2014was getting worse. At some level, I knew what was happening: my brain was damaged.”<\/p>\n

She was taken to the hospital for a brain scan.<\/p>\n

“The diagnosis was quick and ominous: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain,” the Emmy nominee added. “I\u2019d had an\u00a0aneurysm, an arterial rupture.”<\/p>\n

Emilia had immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, calling the pain “unbearable.” While she was recovering, she continued, she experienced aphasia and was “muttering nonsense.”<\/p>\n

A week later, “the aphasia passed,” Emilia added, and she left the hospital a month after being admitted.<\/p>\n

At a 2013 brain scan, she learned a growth “doubled in size” and that she needed surgery again.<\/p>\n

“When they woke me, I was screaming in pain,” she wrote. “The procedure had failed. I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn\u2019t operate again. This time they needed to\u00a0access my brain\u00a0in the old-fashioned way\u2014through my skull.”<\/p>\n

Thankfully, Emilia shared, she’s now “at a hundred per cent.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Because of other medical concerns, Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than she initially expected.<\/p>\n

“I could have went home after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing so well,” the\u00a0Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story<\/em>\u00a0star continued. “My kidneys were failing. It was a lot going on.”<\/p>\n

Today, Cori is on the mend.<\/p>\n

“I’m doing great,” she added. “I just had a little bit of motor skills that I had to work back on. But other than that, I was fine.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cIt got to the point where I was losing my hearing. I couldn\u2019t walk for longer than five minutes at a time without having to lay down for hours, and hours and sleep. Everything I ate hurt my stomach,\u201d the actress said on a September 2024 episode of the\u00a0SHE MD<\/em>\u00a0Podcast<\/em>. \u201cIt was this conflation of issues and diagnoses and different doctors telling me different things.\u201d<\/p>\n

So Shailene\u2014who chose to keep the exact condition private\u2014set out to find answers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI come from a very holistic background and study herbalism,\u201d she added. \u201cSo I was very keen on, \u2018I\u2019m going to work with real MDs, [and] I\u2019m also going to work with independent kind of healers.\u2019 Just trying to search for some sense of comfort in my own skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was a long journey\u2014one that lasted for 10 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout that decade, a lot of other things came from feeling so much discomfort physically,\u201d the\u00a0Big Little Lies\u00a0<\/em>star noted, \u201cwhich was, \u2018My gosh, if everything I eat hurts my stomach, I\u2019m now suddenly afraid of food.\u2019 And then going into the kind of mental f–ckery that can happen with that of body dysmorphia and confusion about identity and feeling safe in my own capsule, in my own skin, what that meant, and what that should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

After tending to both her physical and mental health, Shailene is feeling much better.<\/p>\n
