Zach Roloff\u00a0is getting candid about a health scare that left him hospitalized in the ICU.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Little People, Big World<\/em>\u00a0star and his wife\u00a0Tori Roloff\u00a0revealed on their\u00a0Raising Heights\u00a0<\/em>podcast\u00a0that Zach, 33, faced a\u00a0major medical emergency\u00a0when a shunt, which was placed in his brain to drain fluid down to his stomach, failed.<\/p>\n

Zach explained that he had gone through shunt revision surgery when he was younger and thought he had not been dependent on it anymore, but that wasn\u2019t the case. He said he noticed signs that something was wrong when he started having migraines on and off for about 10 years before finally checking in to a hospital \u2014 which led to a frightening moment for the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when I got to you \u2014 Zach was there yelling my name,\u201d Tori told her husband. \u201cAnd so I\u2019m like \u2018Oh my gosh he\u2019s dying like this is it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Tori explained when she got to his room that the doctors \u201cwere manually draining the fluid\u201d from his brain. When there is a shunt blockage, extra fluid can build up in the brain causing pressure on the brain, which could lead to brain damage, according to the\u00a0National Institute of Health.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were still in so much pain,\u201d Tori told her husband. \u201cYour heart rate started dropping.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair noted that doctors determined that Zach needed to go into surgery immediately. Tori recalled being told that they were going to do an \u201cexploratory surgery\u201d and that they didn\u2019t know what they were \u201cgoing to find.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cThere [were] a lot of unknowns\u201d at the time. However, the doctors were eventually able to determine the cause.\u00a0 \u201cAnd so they went in [my brain] and they replaced the shunt,\u201d Zach said.<\/p>\n

The couple noted that Zach had previously gone to doctors to get his migraine checked and had MRI\u2019s done, but the scar tissue from previous shunt surgeries prevented them from seeing the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really feel like with spinal stuff, fluids, shunts and of those issues, the brain, headache, the idea of a migraine\u2026 it\u2019s hard to pinpoint sometimes,\u201d Zach admitted. Though he added that he was relieved to have finally solved the issue.<\/p>\n
