  • Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn Brown, have exited Sister Wives after 16 years.
  • The show premiered in 2010 and featured Kody and his four wives Christine, Janelle, Meri, and Robyn.
  • Christine, Janelle, and Meri have split from Kody in recent years.

Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn Brown, will not be returning for Sister Wives season 21.

Their exits were revealed in the new trailer for the upcoming season of the reality series.

“After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show,” TLC noted at the start of the trailer.

Neither Kody nor Robyn commented on the decision in the trailer. However, Kody’s ex-wives Christine Brown Woolley, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown shared their reactions.

“I don’t know what it means. I have no idea,” Christine said.

Meanwhile, Janelle said she was “flabbergasted” when she heard the news.

“I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show,” Meri added.

The new season of Sister Wives follows Christine, Janelle, and Meri as they address the “underlying tension” that stemmed from their shared relationships to Kody. The women also navigate their new relationships after their splits from their ex-husband.

When the show premiered in 2010, it revolved around Kody and four wives Meri, Christine, Janelle, and then-newcomer Robyn as they navigated life as a polygamous family.

But in the 16 years since the series began, the Brown family has endured numerous changes, including three breakups in recent years. In 2021, Kody and Christine ended their spiritual marriage after 25 years. (Christine went on to marry David Woolley in October 2023.)

“Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness,” Kody wrote on Instagram at the time. “We enjoyed many years together and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents.”

In December 2022, Janelle ended her nearly 30-year spiritual marriage with Kody. She was granted a “spiritual release” from their union by their church, the Apostolic United Brethren, earlier this year.

“I felt like a weight had lifted off me,” she told PEOPLE in January. “So, somewhere in the back of my mind, this must have been more important than I realized to have this done.”

Finally, Meri announced the end of their relationship in 2023. She had been legally married to Kody from 1990 to 2014 before granting him a divorce so he could legally marry Robyn and adopt her three children. The two remained in a spiritual marriage until their 2023 split.

“During this process, we are committed to kindness and respect toward each other and to all members of our family, and we are also committed to the continued healing of any and all relationships within the family so that we can move forward with forgiveness, grace, and love,” Meri and Kody said in a joint statement at the time.
