Feelings of betrayal rock Sig Hansen’s ship, the Northwestern, in the latest episode of Deadliest Catch.
During the Friday, Aug. 28 episode of the Discovery Channel series, titled “Aleutian Solution,” crew member Adam becomes concerned when his pregnant fiancée tells him over the phone that conditions back home are not good, and she needs him with her. Once their call ends, Adam tells production he feels like he should be with his partner because she is “handling a lot alone right now.”
Then, Adam approaches ship captain Sig and tells him he needs to return home to support his fiancée. Hesitant to send him home, Sig asks Adam, “Is she begging you to come?” to which he replies, “Negative.”

“Well, in my mind, if a doctor says, ‘Hey, we got issues here,’ then yeah, I would take you in like that,” Sig says. “And it’s not. I don’t get it. So you want me to go into town?”
When Adam says yes, Sig expresses that taking him back to the mainland will cost the crew “time and money,” and he doesn’t understand why Adam feels he has to return home if it’s not a “medical emergency.” Adam tells him, “I think being there is important right now, just in case.”

Sig asks, “You know you can’t come back here if you leave on those terms, right?”
“I figured that would be the scenario. I appreciate everything that you guys have done,” Adam says. “You’re a good man, Sig.”
“Well, I want to be a bad man so bad right now, you have no idea,” Sig tells him. Moments after Adam leaves, Sig shares that he feels betrayed by Adam’s decision to leave.
“There is a code out here, and it’s always been, at least in my mind, what I’ve been taught is, ‘Boat comes first,’” Sig says. “[He] broke that code. It’s plain and simple.”
